Position Title: Community Animator
Project: Empowering Tenants: Expanding Legal Knowledge and Justice for Housing Rights
Organization: Regent Park Neighbourhood Association (RPNA)
Location: Regent Park, Toronto, ON (In-Person)
Reports To: Project Coordinator, RPNA Steering Committee
Employment Type: Contract, Part-time (20 hrs/month)
Contract Duration: 6 Months (June 2025 – November 2025)
Compensation: $21/hour

Position Summary:

RPNA is hiring four (4) passionate and community-rooted individuals to serve as Community Animators as part of a Tenant Protection Fund initiative. Animators will engage with Regent Park tenants through outreach, education, and community engagement activities to help raise awareness of tenant rights and available supports.

This role is ideal for individuals with lived experience in Regent Park, knowledge of housing challenges, and a desire to support tenant empowerment and access to justice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct door-to-door outreach and flyering in assigned buildings or zones
  • Promote and support multilingual legal education workshops in the community
  • Engage with youth, seniors, newcomers, and equity-deserving tenants
  • Assist with the development and distribution of tenant rights resources
  • Attend team check-ins and trainings as scheduled by the Project Coordinator
  • Provide feedback on community needs and support program evaluation

Required Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with community outreach, tenant advocacy, or grassroots organizing
  • Familiarity with Regent Park and/or other high-density housing communities
  • Respectful, inclusive, and comfortable working with diverse populations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Assets:

  • Multilingual (e.g., Arabic, Somali, Mandarin, Swahili, or other community languages)
  • Lived experience as a tenant in social or community housing
  • Knowledge of tenant rights, anti-oppression, and community safety practices
